Instructions for refilling ink cartridges
How to Refill Ink Cartridges - Before Refilling an ink cartridge the following are
general tips and hints in order to get the process right:
ALWAYS remove cartridge from printer before refilling
- you would be surprised at how many people do not do this & end up making a
mess in their printer!. Please refer to your printer manual for instructions on
how to remove the cartridge from your printer.
To avoid problem stains always refill your cartridge over a protected surface
such as a kitchen sink or a work bench.
ALWAYS refill a cartridge before it is empty. It is not recommended that you
refill a cartridge that has been emptied for longer than 10 days. The sponge
will dry out, may not absorb ink properly, and the cartridge may also leak.
Make certain not to put the wrong ink colour into the wrong ink chamber. You can
identify the colour in a chamber by inserting a cocktail stick or needle to
verify the colour. (Magenta= RED Cyan= BLUE)
Refilled cartridges can not be stored for an extended period of time, such as a
brand new cartridge.
After refilling leave the cartridge for 24 hours before putting it back into the
printer - this allows the sponge time to correctly soak up the ink.

Can I just refill all three
colours at the
same time?
Inkjet printers express various colours using a combination of cyan (blue),
magenta (red), yellow and black colours. The sprayed quantity for each colour is
different with the data, and its exhaustion time differs.
When one colour is exhausted and you continue to use the printer with the
remained colours, it can cause the nozzle to dry up and be damaged, which makes
it difficult to be reused.
After one colour is exhausted and you refill all three colours at the same time,
there is a danger that other remained colours will be over charged, and this will
cause abnormal printing due to mixture of different colours or poor spray.
Therefore, for stable use of the colour cartridge, we recommend that you refill
the ink even when only one colour is exhausted.
After refilling, certain colours are not printed, white lines appear, and the
colour is faint.
Colour cartridges have different time of exhaustion for each colour ink depending
on the user. It is highly recommended that you refill even one colour as soon as
it is exhausted.
In addition, when too much ink is refilled or it is injected too fast, the ink
may not come out temporarily due to too high injection pressure.
When this happens, put the cartridge on a wet tissue for one hour, and when all
three colours leak out from the nozzle, remove the wetness around it and perform
cartridge cleaning. (It is also very effective to take out a small quantity of
ink using a refill tool)
I refilled my Lexmark/Samsung/Dell/BT ink Cartridge, but I still get a shortage indicated on the screen
Lexmark/Samsung etc printers provide a remains-checking function on the driver program.
UNfortunately it is based on the number of printed pages and not on the actual
remained quantity of ink (so it is just guessing how much ink you have - it cant
tell it you have been printing 3 or 4 line memos or full page graphics!), it will not automatically recognize it even after the
ink has been refilled. Therefore, you need a procedure for making it recognize
that the ink is full after refilling. You can do this by checking the “New Cartridge Installation” on the printer
control panel
(Start -> Set up -> Printer -> Printer Model -> Lexmark or Samsung printer control panel ->
Cartridge).
The ink leaks out of my Lexmark/Samsung/Dell/BT ink
cartridge after refilling.
All Lexmark/Samsung/Dell ink cartridge models have sponge inside, and when too much ink is
injected or it is injected too fast, the ink that has not been absorbed will
flow out from the nozzle.
When this happens, put it on a dry tissue until the ink no longer comes out, or
if you have a refill tool, take out a small quantity of ink, and it will usually
be recovered.
After refilling my Lexmark/Samsung/Dell/BT ink cartridge the ink leaks out from the nozzle but nothing is printed on.
For Lexmark printers, we can presume the following causes for blank paper
outputs.
First, the nozzle has been used while the colour is faint, or neglected unused
for some time, and it dried up or damaged.
In this case, when you stamp the nozzle on a dry tissue, the ink will not come
out. You can induce its recovery by extracting the ink with a refill tool or
putting it on a wet tissue.
Another reason can be a malfunction of the cartridge’s terminal plate (side
part) which keeps the ink from coming out while the ink leaks out clearly from
the nozzle.
This symptom appears only in some models of Lexmark/Samsung, and even if the cartridge
is not recognized the printing job is done, but nothing is printed on.
For your reference, the output quality is decided by the cartridge’s keeping
condition, and for the models that reuse the cartridge, there can be various
reasons even for the same symptom. If you want to get more thorough examination,
please contact our customer support department
After refilling my Lexmark/Samsung/Dell/BT ink cartridge the ink does not come out from the nozzle, white lines appear
and the colour is faint
For Lexmark/Samsung/Dell/BT models, the output quality depends on the existing cartridge’s condition. Also, when the cartridge is left unused for a long time, or
excessively used while the ink is exhausted, it can dry up and damage the
nozzle, which makes it difficult to get normal printing even after it is
refilled.
In addition, even when the cartridge is in good condition, since the inside of
the black and colour ink is sponge, when too much ink is injected or it is
injected too fast, uniform absorption is difficult, which can be the reason for
white lines and other symptoms appearing after refilling. First of all, put the
cartridge on a wet tissue for one hour, and when the ink leaks out from the
nozzle, remove wetness around it and clean the nozzle. (When you have a refill
tool, it can also be effective to take out a small quantity of ink.)
I refilled my HP ink Cartridge, but I still get a shortage indicated on the screen
HP models do not recognize the remained quantity of ink, but the cartridge
itself.
The remains checking program is based on the number of printed pages. Therefore,
even the ink is fully refilled, the remains checking program still recognizes it
as insufficient of ink (it will recognize the ink as full only after you replace
the cartridge).
HP No ink” message appears (printer lamp turns on).
However, regardless the error message, it is possible to print normally. If it
is uncomfortable, perform the following procedure:
1. Select “Run” in the Windows’ Start menu.
2. Enter “HPRCFG09” in the input box.
3. Deselect the bi-directional communication.
4. Click “OK” and reboot the computer.

I have refilled the ink cartridge and it seems to be leaking
This cartridge has a structure that an internal absorbable material (sponge) is
absorbing ink. Therefore, if more ink than the prescribed quantity is injected,
or it is injected too fast, the ink that has not been absorbed will leak out.
When this happens, put the cartridge on a dry tissue for about 10 minutes, or
re-apply the refill tool to extract the unabsorbed ink, and re-install it after
the ink no longer leaks.
For your reference, colour cartridges have different times for exhaustion for
cyan, magenta and yellow colours because each colour’s usage is different with
each user’s environment.
Therefore, when you refill the three colours at the same time, you must adjust
the quantity for the colours that are normally printed to prevent the ink’s
spilling or leaking.
How many times can you refill a cartridge
When you are re-using existing cartridge as it is, the number of refills is
decided depending on the condition of the cartridge or the usage environment.
The most important thing is to refill it at the most opportune time.
For heat-jet types (HP, Canon, Samsung), if you print excessively while the ink
is exhausted or the nozzle has dried up, it can damage the nozzle or the heat
plate, and the cartridge can not be normally used after the refilling.
In particular, for colour cartridges that have different exhaustion time for each
colour, it is very important to inject the exhausted colour as soon as you find it
out by inspecting the printed output you get when you clean the cartridge.
